Comforting Words |
March 15, 2008 |
I know how it feels to lose someone you really care about...it's not a good feeling. The hurt that we feel when someone dies shows that death was not supposed to be a part of life and you should know that our Heavenly Father knows exactly what you are going through. He promises that there is going to be a time when those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. (John 5:28,29) Soon there is going to be a time when there will be no more death, no more crying, no more sickness (Revelation 21:4) and how we all long for that day when we can see our loved one again in perfect conditions. Until then may you take comfort in his loving promises.

I remember running up and down on Newport Street, from kindergarten to the University of Liberia, all under the watchful eyes of Ms. Bertha and Aunt Bernice. She was always quick with advice for us girls growing up and quick with the alcohol and bandaid when we fell. Ms. Bertha will always be remembered fondly and with great love.
I am sorry I was unable to attend the homegoing, but my sincere condolences to the family.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight.
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there -- I did not die.

Blessed to Have Known Her |

As death is part of life's cycle, it still is not an easy event to deal with and accept. Ma Bertha was an inspiration to all who met and knew her.
From my family, I want to express our deepest sympathy and share our condolences with her immediate family and the family she built through out her life. Ma Bertha is not gone but lives on within us. How compassionate, caring, her life's skill of delivering many children into this world.
The deep kpelle she spoke was clear, full of love and very instructional. Anyone who heard her speak never forgot that she was a teacher in the kpelle dialect.
May her rest be soothing and may she rest in perpectual PEACE.

Anita, Tobias, Dwight, Joshua, Cathy Gbasie and the rest of the children and your family:
On behalf of my family, I Just want to add our voices to those already expressed. Your mother was truly an agent of God on earth, for it was through her that He sent into this world many souls. I am proud to say that two of our children, Yoquelleh and Garnett, Jr., were blessed to have been ushered into this world by Ms. Bertha. So, as we try to console you in our weak, human ways -- our Almighty Father is the only true consoler -- we want you to also rejoice, always remembering the great and endearing legacy that your loving mother has left behind. May her soul and the souls of all our faithful departed rest in perpetual peace.

I recall going to Mamba Point to visit my godfather Dwight and later to see my younger sister born by Ms Bertha. There was always a smile on her face whenever I visited her home with my mother.
Her life touched many and she will be missed. To Dwight, and the rest of the family, May you find comfort knowing that your mother made a difference and that she is resting with her Lord.
Be blessed knowing that earth has no sorrow that heaven can't remove.
